Glenn Skuthorpe releases fifth album SEE MY WORLD and embarks on the TAKING IT HOME tour across SA, NSW, QLD & VIC

With four highly-regarded albums to his name and music featured in documentaries such as John Pilger’s Utopia (No More Whispering),

international touring singer songwriter Glenn Skuthorpe announces a self- produced fifth independent album ‘See My World’ to be released on 3 February 2017.

To celebrate the new album, Glenn will set off on the road with his band for the ‘Taking It Home’ tour. Kicking off the launch tour with shows at Cobargo Folk Festival from 24-26 Feb and his current hometown of Adelaide on 10 March, Glenn then heads out west for gigs in country QLD and NSW where Glenn’s musical journey first began. Other tour dates include Brisbane on 24 March, Sydney on 30 March, Bellingen on 1 April and Melbourne on 6 April, with further regional gigs in NSW and VIC along the way.

Glenn’s connection to his country is expressed in the masterful storytelling within the songs on the new album. Of the new album, Glenn says:
‘My musical journey started out when I was a kid, sitting around a campfire watching the old people play five string guitars and with three chords they would sing about 50 songs. Whether travelling the world or going back home, I write about my journey and the people I meet along the way. Songs are just flooding out of me, running like a river through country, connecting the bush, the city and the ocean.’

In 2015, Glenn ran a highly successful crowdfunding campaign. He says:

‘I really want to get my music out to a wide audience. I love being on the road, connecting with my listeners and playing live, and it just means so much to me to be able to take my music beyond a live performance and into the studio to bring my songs to life, and let them live on. My supporters and I were all part of making a record that we all connect with and we continue on this journey.’

The new album, See My World, is evocative of the wide-open road with its folk-rock sound infused with country and blues and undertones of mid-sixties and early seventies dirty melodic rock. It demands the listener lean in closer, get on their feet and come along for the ride.

The album was engineered by Colin Wynne at Thirty Mills Studios and a highlight of this project was reconnecting with producer Steve Francis (who produced the track ‘Out West’) and Clare O’Meara (Accordion and Fiddle) who has played on all of Glenn’s albums. The musical synergy between Glenn and Clare is present in both the recording and their subsequent live shows. In fact it was this connection that Glenn focused on when choosing the musicians to play on the album – all accomplished musicians who could bring their own artistry and feel as well as a whole bunch of warmth into the studio – Melbourne’s queen of blues Kerri Simpson (backing vocals), one of Canada’s finest country music singer songwriters Northern Albertan Matt Patershuk (who sings on ‘Out West’), along with Mark Grunden (Drums), Ann Metry (Bass), Martha Baartz (Saxophone), James Rust (Bass) and Declan O’Neill (Drums).

The making of the album was generously supported by See My World crowdfund supporters and Arts South Australia and the tour through the Australia Council for the Arts.
